Seller guide
Preparing surplus equipment for sale
A good equipment listing answers the buyer's practical questions before they have to ask. Preparation makes the sale easier to assess and reduces avoidable back-and-forth.
Gather the identifying details
- Record the manufacturer, model and serial number where appropriate.
- State the approximate age, usage and present operating condition.
- List included accessories, manuals, tooling and spare parts.
- Explain any known faults clearly and specifically.
Use photographs that help a buyer decide
Include a full view, the control area, identification plates, accessories and any wear or damage. Use good light and a simple background. Do not conceal defects or use a manufacturer's photograph as a substitute for the actual item.
Set realistic collection information
Give the collection location, dimensions, weight and site-access restrictions. Explain whether the item is disconnected, palletised, at ground level or requires specialist lifting.
Keep ownership records ready
Be prepared to confirm that the business owns the equipment or is authorised to sell it. If finance or another party is involved, resolve that position before accepting an order.
